Choose and buy tents, what the merchants won't tell you!

Jun. 28, 2022

Travelers who are new to outdoor sports will be at a loss when choosing tents. There are all kinds of tents. Which one is suitable for you?

Today we will share with you six ways to choose a tent and learn that you will never be bought the wrong tent again.

Method 1: look at the size.

Choosing the size of the tent should not be a problem, but you can choose it according to your personal space needs.

For a person to travel and stay, choose a single account; if you want to experience the outdoors with your lover, buy a double account; if you want to go out with your family and friends, buy a bill for 3-4 people.

But remember, tents are not only for people, but also for other things, so leave enough space.

Many tents have hallways, but they vary in size and quantity, so it's best to take the space needed for items into account when buying.

Method 2: look at the poles of the tent.

Many people think that an aluminum pole tent is lighter than a glass steel pole tent, but the weight of a tent does not depend on what kind of pole it uses.

After the same double glass steel pole tent is replaced with aluminum alloy pole, it is only about 150 grams light, and the glass steel pole tent can also be made very light.

The real advantage of aluminum alloy rods lies in their durability. FRP rods break when they are used frequently, and tents cannot be built. This problem can also occur at low temperatures.

In addition to bending, the aluminum alloy rod will not break in normal use, and the integrity of the aluminum alloy rod is better than that of the glass steel rod.

Aluminum alloy pole tents are more expensive than fiberglass rods, but they are not out of reach. Recently, many aluminum alloy pole tents with about 300-500 yuan have appeared, which is a blessing for donkeys.

Method 3: look at the style.

Different uses are taken into account in the design, so there are different styles.

In terms of the shape of tents, there are five common styles of tents:

● Triangular tent: the front and rear use herringbone iron pipe as a support, the middle frame is connected by a crossbar, prop up the inner tent and install the outer tent, this is the most common tent style in the early days.

● The dome-shaped tent (also known as yurt style): using double-pole cross support, it is relatively easy to disassemble and assemble, and it is the most popular style in the market.

● Hexagonal tents: use three-pole or four-pole cross support, and some use six-pole design, pay attention to the stability of tents, is a common style of mountain tents.

● Boat bottom-shaped tent: propped up like a small boat, it can be divided into two or three different ways of support, usually with a bedroom in the middle and an hall shed at both ends, which is also one of the common tent styles.

● Ridge-shaped tent: shaped like an independent small tile house, usually supported by four pillars with a ridge-shaped roof, this kind of tent is generally tall and bulky, suitable for drivers or relatively fixed field camping use, so it is called a car tent.

Method 4: look at the weight of the tent.

Many people are very concerned about the weight of the tent, everyone wants to carry a light "house" out, but I do not recommend blindly pursuing light, maybe in the south, but the summer in the north is too short.

In order to make the awning very light, you have to make a compromise on the material, such as using gauze where nylon cloth is supposed to be used, 190t where 210t is used, etc., which directly leads to the decline of thermal insulation.

Therefore, when purchasing, you should ask yourself: is such a light tent suitable for my environment?

Method 5: look at the color.

Most people often choose tent colors according to their preferences, but low-brightness green and brown palladium are good choices if they want to reduce the impact on the natural environment; high-brightness tents have the advantage of being easy to find in addition to looking bright.

In addition, the color of the tent will affect the light and temperature inside the tent. High-brightness tents have higher light transmittance and higher heat transmission at the same time; low-brightness tents have poorer light transmittance and block some of the natural heat sources provided to us by the sun, affecting personal activities in the tent, especially in bad weather.

Method 6: look at the rain.

There is basically no need to consider the rain protection of the tent, now everyone will choose double-decker tent, whether it is waterproof 2000mm or 5000mm water column, this index is the same for us: no problem from moderate to heavy rain.

Tent is not omnipotent, the function is very single-minded!

Although tents are important equipment for camping, they are not the only equipment.

Its role in camping is limited, generally speaking, tents do not promise to keep warm, camping warm is the task of sleeping bags, the main functions of tents are wind, rain, dust, dew and moisture, providing campers with a relatively comfortable rest environment.

According to the above objectives, the following factors should be taken into account in the selection of tents:

1. Easy to use and carry.

Carry, if it is a backpack, or the kind of traditional tent is more convenient, after disassembly, you can put it directly into the backpack.

2. Waterproof outer tent and breathable inner tent are two essential points for high-quality tents.

The most common tent coating is PU coating, PU is polyurethane polymer organic matter, PU coating is a stable low-temperature coating, commonly used in a variety of fabrics.

The thickness and technology of the PU coating determine the waterproof property of the fabric. The thickness of the coating is expressed by mm, indicating the height of the static waterproof column of the coating under laboratory conditions.

-PU800 coating shows that the coating is impermeable under the static water column of 800mm.

PU800 coating protects against light to moderate rain.

-PU1000-1200 coating can protect against moderate to heavy rain.

-more than 1500mm coating can be used in a variety of environments.

We know that the permeability of the breathable fabric is two-way, when the external humidity is high, moisture will also infiltrate into the fabric.

In terms of density, there are 170T, 190T, 210D and higher number of nylon fabrics.

Foreign professional tents mostly use designated imported materials, while ordinary tents use nylon fabrics made in South Korea.

The textile coating technology and sewing technology of South Korea are better than those of China.

The inner tent of low-grade tent uses nylon cloth or general gauze net, while the inner tent of medium-and high-grade tent uses dense and excellent gauze net to ensure good air permeability and anti-mosquito function.

3. The strut has high strength and good resilience, and the aluminum rod is better than the fiberglass rod.

At present, the best rod is a carbon rod, followed by aluminum alloy, then fiberglass, and finally an iron rod (almost useless except for the army).

Most of the aluminum alloy rods are scandium aluminum alloy, 7075T9 and 7001T6 in terms of price and performance.

The wind resistance of the tent is not only related to the texture diameter of the tent pole, but also to the number of the tent pole. Generally speaking, the more the number of the tent pole, the better the windproof performance.

For example, 2 groups of tents with ordinary aluminum poles can withstand strong winds of about 7 Mel 8; 3 sets of aluminum poles can withstand about 9 levels of wind; and tents with 3-4 sets of 7075 aluminum poles can be used in a snowstorm environment of about 11 levels.

4. The bottom of the account should be waterproof and wear-resistant.

The bottom of the account is required to be waterproof and strong and wear-resistant, and the commonly used materials are PE cloth and waterproof polyester cloth.

PE account bottom is used in medium-and low-grade tents, waterproof polyester cloth is used in medium-and high-grade tents.

PE is made of polyethylene, similar to low-end snakeskin bags. Actual tents use PE material with waterproof film on both sides, including a large number of export tents.

The bottom of the tent touches the ground and is vulnerable to scratches such as gravel, grass roots and branches, so before camping outdoors, clean up the hard objects on the ground, or use tent floor cloth to pave the ground as a protective layer.

Tent floor cloth generally uses 420D wear-resistant Oxford cloth.

5. Choosing tents with front and rear doors or opposite windows is more conducive to ventilation.

At this point, the new quick-open tent is better designed and more ventilated.

6. If the design is reasonable, enough ground nails and windproof ropes are needed.

Packaging bags, tent nails, tent ropes and other accessories also affect the use of tents.

The packing bag should be strong and durable, the number of tent nails should be sufficient, the strength of aluminum nails should be large, and the tent rope should be used to fix the tent.

There are three common ways to support tents:

1. Inner brace and outer drape, that is, prop up the inner tent with a bracket, then put on the waterproof outer tent, and then fix it.

This kind of support method is more convenient, most tents use the support method of inner brace and outer drape, such as SANFO SUNSHINE,HOLIDAY and so on.

2. external support and internal hanging, that is, first prop up the external account, and then hang the internal account to the external account.

This method of support is more conducive to rain protection, because the internal account is always kept at a certain distance from the external account, but it takes some time to support it for the first time.

E225 uses this support method.

3. It is supported by a single frame, and then fixed with the roof and pull rope.

This kind of tent support environment has limitations, it must be able to nail or tie rope environment, on the cement floor and hard stone ground, the tent can not stand automatically.

Single pole tents and roof ridge tents use this method of support.

Before you buy a tent, ask three questions:

1. What season or environment do you want to use tents in each year?

2. How many people often use tents?

3. How much do you want to spend?

Although the use of tents is not complicated, it should be said that the use of tents is also a science. If the same tents are used properly, the effect of wind and rain protection is good, and vice versa.

Of course, different uses can also choose different tents, professional outdoor and amateur, after all, there is a difference, in the choice should be clear positioning, in order to choose a satisfactory tent.
